29 Faces Challenge - May

As I indicated in my last post, I’m taking the Suzi Blu’s Portrait class and I very much need to practice. So it was serendipity that I ran across Ayala Art Blog because she is hosting the 29 faces in 29 days challenge beginning May 1st. Do I need to join another challenge? In general, no not really….except that I do need this particular challenge to help me make progress in my portrait class.
Now I may not be able to post 29 different faces during the month but I will try to post my progress in whatever face I am working on.
If you want to know more about this challenge, be sure to visit Ayala Art Blog for all the nitty gritty. Once you read up on the challenge, I’m sure you’ll want to join us. If not, at least come by and tell me how I’m doing, K?
See you later gater.

Playing with portraits again

So here I am playing with drawing portraits again. I’d love to be good at it but I just don’t practice enough.  I decided to take Suzi Blu’s portrait class because the class is self-paced. I don’t have to hurry if I don’t want too and I don’t have to wait for the next set of videos if I’m ready to move on.

The Goddess and the Poet was the class I wanted to take when it was first offered but couldn’t because it was a little more than I could afford to pay at the time.  Now? I’m getting three classes for an incredible deal. Plus I love Suzi. She’s been an inspiration to me since way back when she was vloging her paintings on Youtube, before she started offering classes. I took her first class on drawing and painting Petite Girls doll faces and really enjoyed it.

Now Suzi is offering The Goddess and the Poet, Piety & Passion and Angels for $35.00 That’s an incredible 39 videos for less than a buck apiece.  Here, check it out yourself:

She is such a pouty girl.

Or so my husband says. I suppose she is. And I suppose it comes from taking classes from Suzi Blu. All her girls are pouty.  I think everyone is entitled to a good old fashioned pout session so it’s OK.

Do you make your own Christmas cards?

This is my second year making one.  Last years was a collage using incorporating my husband's and B-I-L's legs. Yes It sound weird but it came out cute if I do say so myself.

Thanks to Suzi Blu's class I actually painted a picture I like. Alright, I admit, the hat wasn't painted, I stole it from a catalog.  Don't tell my family ok?  This one is 9 X 12 and I scanned it to print on cardstock. I still have to mail it but I'm excited for my family to see it.

The Star

As I indicated before I'm taking the Suzi Blu's class "Les Petite Dolls".  Two or three weeks ago (or more), she asked us to create our own Oracle or Tarot card.  At the time I wasn't far enough along in her class to complete the challenge but I looked up my card (see a post or two ago) and came up with a basic idea for the card using the petite dolls.  I finally finished the card last night.

Star Oracle Card

I'm not a big believer in Tarot cards but I really like what the star card symbolizes and encourages: to have faith in yourself.   From http://www.wholarts.com/   "The image of The Star tells you to have faith in your ideals, to dare to dream, and to hold tightly to your perceived purpose in life. The Star promises the renewal of hope, inspiration, and spiritual clarity."

When I was done, I showed the painting to My Guy and to my surprise, he said we should hang it up. He's never said that before....sniff, sniff.

My Little Girls and more

This has been a very busy week.  Last Friday I finished up my hosting duties for the NorCal Residents ATC Swap at ATCsForAll.com.  There were some very nice cards created in this swap.  As host I got to look at all of them and drool over them. They were so hard to let go, but let go I did, and now they live with new families where they are loved.

As if I didn't have enough to do, I joined yet another art group.  I jumped on the bandwagon and signed up for Suzi Blu's Les Petite Dolls class.  These are my first attempts at doll faces.

My Girls

I am also working on a doll on wood, but it's not ready to show yet. Part of the class is outlining the doll drawing with a wood burning tool and that is what I find the hardest to do.  I'm getting some bumpy looking lines and let me tell you, it ain't pretty.

I also got more involved with Milliande Creativity Club.  These are the two pieces I did for that group:

It's called "Washing away the dust or Out to Art"

Door Hanger

and The Purple Tree

Purple Tree

The poem says:

The Purple tree

where I sit every eve

pondering the majesty of her leaves

and imagining where

I could be if only

I gave in to the dreams

that call to me. .......by me

That's all for now, thanks for reading.

I am a Star?

I joined the Suzi Blu Ning site and her current challenge is to create our own Oracle card. Knowing nothing about Oracle or Tarot cards I found a site that helps you determine your card based on the answers you give. How accurate is it? I have no idea but I do like the card.

You are The Star

Hope, expectation, Bright promises.

The Star is one of the great cards of faith, dreams realised

The Star is a card that looks to the future. It does not predict any immediate or powerful change, but it does predict hope and healing. This card suggests clarity of vision, spiritual insight. And, most importantly, that unexpected help will be coming, with water to quench your thirst, with a guiding light to the future. They might say you're a dreamer, but you're not the only one.

Blah day

There was something off today. Not sure why but I felt restless or bored or just off. I only spent a few minutes in my studio today. Now I have a headache.

When My Guy came home he wasn't feeling well, catching a cold, poor baby. ( My Girl, if you read this call your dad. :) ) It was his turn to make dinner and I offered to do it since he wasn't feeling well but he wanted to go out instead. Applebees, the old standby...I getting bored with it but there aren't many choices without driving 30 minutes. Anyway, My Guy decided he's staying home tomorrow.

I worked on an ATC for the Claudine Hellmuth Swap at http://www.atcards.com/ but I'm not sure I like it enough to send it. I also have to make one more ATC for the Make a Statement swap. I also need to make a cover for the new journal My Girl and I will be working on together. Once that's done, I'll take it to Staples and have them bind it and send it to her.

I was just at Suzi Blu's blog. That girl just cracks me up. I love her videos and her art. If you have time, I suggest watching her videos at YouTube, her channel is called SuziBluTube. There are about 30 videos and I just love them all.

Another funny lady in the art journaling world is Val who's channel is named Batatakley. She had this video offering travel for Art Journals.
