I’ve doodled my way out of hiding

Yeah, I know I’ve been gone for a while.  What can I say? My Muse has been on vacation and while I’ve been trying to entice her to come back she has obstinately refused to do so.  I’ve been able to create a few things but nothing steadily.  I did finish this doodle just this morning and thought maybe if I post, it would shame my muse into coming back to play.  We’ll see if it works. Wish me luck.

29 Faces - Day 26 Nice 3 day weekend

I hope you all are having a wonderful 3 day weekend. Husband and I are getting a massage later today and I’m looking forward to that. Otherwise, I don’t think we’ll do much, maybe go to a movie and relax.

I have to thank my dear husband, Big G, for getting my car a new battery today. Yesterday when I went to pick up Little G, my grandson, from daycare my car wouldn’t start when we were leaving. The battery was dead. I had to call Big G to come and start the car with jumper cables.  Luckily, he was there in a hurry because it was HOT in the car.  We were on our way in no time thanks to my sweet man.

Here’s my next face with a little Zentangle doodles thrown in.

What are your plans for the weekend?

Abstracts and Florals

It seems that my journal pages have been following a certain theme lately….abstract shapes colored with watercolor pencils, intense pencils or Prismacolor markers and floral designs.

Colorful Flowers 2

On this first page, I used Prismacolor markers on the right side and watercolor background on the left.  For the floral color, I used Intense pencils.  I used a Pitt pen for the zentangle doodles.  You’d think I would have worked in the two sides separately but No.  Both side were done at the same time. I really like the intensity of the color.

The right side of this page was really a happy accident.  When I colored the page above with the markers, they bled to the other side of the page so I decided to make use of the color there.  It’s a little patchy and not as intense as the first page but I like it just as much.

The second giveaway is a handmade Zentangle doodle journal.  The cover was painted then the magic carpet doodle was added. The signature pages are made of smooth white paper that will accept the crisp fine lines of the Sakura Micron pen.  The giveaway will include the pen and doodle legend. The doodle legend was created from some of my past doodle drawings.

All Tangled Up Again

I'm not sure what it is about Zentangles but I love them.  Here is a few that I worked on this past week. I've posted rather small images but they are 5.5" x 8", so they take a while to finish.

My Little Zen Monster

The first is my little Zen Monster.
He didn't start out to be a monster
but soon there was a head
and then the fingers and toes appeared.
and what do you know,
little Zen was born.

carved until I set him free."--Michelangelo

Zen Flourish

With this Zentangle I was determined
to use some new patterns. Now it's not
made up of entirely new patterns
but just some I'd never used before.

Zen Hand

This one was one I'd been wanting
to do for a while. I love the look of
patterns on hands.
It reminds me of the Illustrated Man.

Hand Drawn Flower

This last page was a fast drawing
so I could test the new Prismacolor
markers I bought on Ebay.  The color is
much better in person. It didn't scan
well and I didn't have time to play with it.
If you are interested in the Ebay seller
I purchased these from just leave me a note.
It was a very positive experience.

From Zentangles to Fashion

Can you tell I like this style? I can't seem to stop drawing these. I usually draw them while watching TV.

ZentanglePage

This page was inspired by my little fashion crisis this weekend. I just wasn't sure my outfit was right for the party we were going to on the USS Hornet. It was labeled a Semi-formal event but I'm just a casual girl and so I just felt wrong. As it turned out not too many were dressed in semi-formal attire so I fit in. But not before driving my husband a little nuts. Oh well.

Thanks for reading.

Zentangles and Goals for 2008

Here are the Zentangle ATCs I wrote about yesterday. These have been fun and creating them has a meditative quality to it.

I have 2 others in progress. I'll post them when they are done.

Here is the link to a website that is about creating a Zentangle. They are selling supplies for creating Zentangles but I don't see a need. Paper and a good black ink pen is all you need. I used the smooth side of watercolor paper and a Faber-Castell Pitt Artist pen to create mine. But do look at the gallery. They have some fantastic examples.

As for my goals for 2008, they are very simple:

  1. Eat healthy foods.
  2. Exercise more often.
  3. Create something artistic daily whether it be art or work related.
  4. Write in my blog or my journal daily. (I don't promise to do both daily because I know I won't).
  5. Create To-Do lists daily so I don't forget to do the mundane tasks that I'd rather forget but have to be done.

That's it. Still sick with a cold but not feeling too bad at the moment, thanks to some Alka-Seltzer Cold medicine.
