Have you ever spent too much time with one person? My dear husband is the love of my life but this week he is on vacation and I'm not but I work from home. What does that spell? Not relief, that for sure. Probably more like disaster. Ok I think I'll not dwell on the argument we had and just leave it at that.
Then there is my mother....who I call regularly to find out how she is. She can relate the most minute details of every conversation she had on that particular day. She tells me every excruciating "He said, then I said...etc.." After she's recited the entire dialogue she says "why aren't you talking?" Because I'm numb? So as usual I try to tell her something and mid-sentence she starts talking to someone else. EVERY TIME! That woman couldn't tell you any thing beyond the most superficial facts of my life.
What kind of day have I had when the most rewarding conversation I had today was with my father, the man who I normally can't stand! Someone wake me from this nightmare that was Wednesday Dec. 28, 2005.
This little bit of cyber space allows me to recount my attempts at painting, drawing, photography, collage, quilting, family or whatever suits my fancy.

How close is too close?

Tuesday is the new Monday
It started off at 8am with a cup of coffee and a few pages of INXS:Story to Story, the INXS autobiography. I received the book for Christmas from The Girl because she knows I'm a big, although new, INXS fan. (Yes she rolls her eyes when the Switch CD starts playing but then she ends up singing along to Pretty Vegas and Perfect Strangers.) My Guy wakes up a few minutes later, eyes wide in surprise that I'm up before him. He is the early to bed, early to rise type and I'm the night owl sleep in late type.
This is a 4 day work week. The first day of the work day consisted of processing two orders, some email, a few tech support phone calls and updating a QP message board user account. Whoop-ti! I was going to clean up the piles of paper on my desk but I ended up putting up a message board on ThisLittleBit.com website. I'm not sure why, the website doesn't generate any traffic. It's just a repository for some images of my art work and pictures of JD Fortune. Actually I do know why I did it...because I could. Yes I'm a process person, not an end product person. I like to try things and move on.
Later I went to Linens and Things with My Guy and The Girl to buy a vacuum cleaner. Hummmm We got a *Dyson* and for 400 bucks it had damn well better be a good one. It's The Girl's job to vacuum the house and she was the most excited by the purchase. She researched the different vacuums, decided which one she wanted and explained why it was good. So based on her research we bought it. It appears to be a good choice.

After the holidays
I had a wonderful birthday and Christmas. The Girl got us up very early to open presents. Is 7 am early? To me it is although I woke first at 6 am and had just successfully gotten back to sleep when she came in calling out "Wake up! It's Christmas". Who could argue with her cheerful tone?
I walked out to the living room after splashing water on my face. I had to laugh as The Girl had already sorted the presents under the tree and stockings hung over the fireplace. This is something we usually do together but she was got up early and was too excited to wait. By the number of boxes I can safely say that we went overboard this year. We all had a great year financially and for once we didn't have to budget out money. The Girl, who is my beautiful 17 year old daughter, and her dad, my wonderful, handsome husband of almost 19 years both work in the same office and both got incredible Xmas bonuses. The best part of the holiday season was finding out how incredibly generous The Girl has become. Seeing her delight as others opened their gifts was quite a sight as The Girl had been quite materialistic in her younger years. She has matured so much she makes me proud.
I won't go into the gifts but suffice it to say that everyone felt they had been heard. Well, I do have one grip about the gifts: The IPod Nano that I got my husband didn't work....argh, actually double argh because we can't even return it right away because they are sold out until mid-January....argh!!! Everything else was fine and very loved.
More later...this computer is getting hot on my lap.
