The word for 2010 - Optimism

optimism

What we feared last year came true.  My Guy was laid off from work just before we were going to leave for Christmas vacation.  As a friend said ‘How heartless are people who can lay off workers just before Christmas and then go home to their family and enjoy their holiday?’  I could never understand that either.

Luckily, we had already paid for the airline tickets and all of the Christmas presents we wanted to buy for the family we were going to visit. My Guy and I decided before we left that we were going to forget what happened and enjoy ourselves as we’d planned.  So off we went and we had a wonderful time.

However, since coming home, it’s been a little tougher to get back to living with some energy.  I’ve been uninspired and a little depressed. However, as I say in my journal page, I don’t want to live like that any more.  I need to stay hopeful and positive for the both of us.

So the word of this year is Optimism.

  1. Good word and good for you to do your best to be strong. I don't understand how people can remove all sense of humanity when they walk in the door of their 'work' and then somehow put it back on when they leave. Here is to you and your 'guy' and to a better 2010 than 2009!

  3. Oh Linda, I'm so sorry for the difficulty you are experiencing. My brother was laid off recently too. He's looking now and we keep reminding ourselves and him that all things happen for a reason and that he'll find something better soon. It's just hard to think of exactly WHY those things can't just happen to someone else. I do think the economy is starting to pick up, so at least there is hope.

  4. I'm sorry for the problems you are experiencing as well. Your art is beautiful, and you have said it all in your journal...you need to say positive for the both of you.

  8. Hi, Linda! So sorry to hear the sad news. I am glad that you had planned ahead though and that you were able to put it aside - even if only for a moment - to enjoy visiting with friends and family. Wishing you the best and hoping that this leads to something even better than you both could imagine!

  9. Linda,
I saw that you had visited Becolorful. Thank you for stopping by. I wanted to return the favor and I began looking at your art ( very fun) I had never thought of using scrapbook paper as my canvas. Wow one visit and I already came away with a great idea. Then I went on to read your next post and I could so relate. My husband has been in the automobile business for years and not once but three times have I gotten that call that he needs a ride home. You see, in those jobs they also provide you with your car. When they let you go they unfortunately take the car right away. This was always a result of the economy, not anything my husband had done or not done. It is difficult. You worry about finances but you also worry about your guy's self esteem. All I can say is you will get through this and it is strange but we always seemed to come through it a bit more unified and reconnected to each other. My husband eventually started his own company so being laid off is not a concern anymore but he is still in a line of work related to the car world and anybody who reads the newspapers knows that things have been challenging to say the least. Still we are confident and look back on those previous layoffs as the best thing that ever happened to us. Good luck. There are better days ahead. Pam
